Pre-Medical Sciences

If you are thinking about a career in medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, osteopathy, chiropractic, occupational therapy, veterinary medicine or physical therapy, Quincy University will put you on the road to success. Our Pre-Medical Sciences program provides proven preparation in biology, chemistry, and physics. Combined with our Franciscan tradition of caring and our liberal arts foundation, your professional education will make you an incisive decision-maker and a life-long leader in the field.

Our Pre-Medical Sciences curriculum challenges the best and brightest. That’s why our science faculty members, who all hold a Ph.D., stay with you every step of the way. Whether you’re tackling a tough lab experiment or strategizing for admission to graduate school, the expertise of Quincy’s faculty gives you a winning edge.

Your Courses

Quincy University recommends that pre-medical sciences students complete a baccalaureate program in either biological sciences or chemistry. Many medical and dental schools, however, do accept students majoring in other disciplines who have completed a pre-professional sequence in science and mathematics.

Your Active Learning Opportunities

As the variety of health careers continues to grow, it’s important that you have an opportunity to experience the medical field first-hand.  Internships allow you to experience a professional role and to build a rapport with those already in the field. Quincy students have interned in the following medical facilities:

  • Quincy Medical Group (Quincy, Ill.)
  • Blessing Hospital (Quincy, Ill.)
  • St. Elizabeth’s Hospital (Belleville, Ill.)
  • St. John’s Hospital (Springfield, Ill.)
  • St. John’s Mercy Medical Center (St. Louis, Mo.)
  • OSF St. Francis Medical Center (Peoria, Ill.)

In addition to internships, few schools the size of Quincy University offer a cadaver lab for experiential learning. At larger schools, your opportunities for guided, hands-on experience are very rare. Our cadaver lab and individualized instruction continually set our pre-medical science program apart when preparing you for your future.
